WELCOME TO THIS TIME OF WORSHIP at Ascension! We are blessed and honored that you have chosen to join us in our worship service today. If you are visiting this morning, please stop by and sign the guest book at the door and complete the “Record of Fellowship” book found at the end of the pew. Return it to the center aisle as the ushers will collect it when they come forward with the offering.
OUR MISSION - The mission of Ascension Lutheran Church is to connect people to the one true God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – so that they come to know and believe they are saved for eternal life by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
OUR MINISTRY – In faithfulness to the will of God as revealed in His Word, and using the opportunities He places before us, we intentionally and actively seek to build relationships with those outside the Church in order to plant the seeds of the Gospel, provide opportunities for all to be nurtured in the Christian faith, and equip all people to put their faith into action.
HOLY COMMUNION IS CELEBRATED TODAY. The Lord’s Supper is celebrated today in the faith and glad confidence that, as He says, our Lord gives into our mouth not only bread and wine but His very body and blood to eat and drink for the forgiveness of sins, and to strengthen our union with Him and with one another. Our Lord invites to His table those who trust in His words, repent of all sin, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as he forgives and loves us. Because those who eat and drink our Lord’s body and blood unworthily do so to their great harm, and because Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar (1 Corinthians 11), any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession different from that of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, are encouraged to consult with Pastor before communing.
READ THRU THE BIBLE IN 2008 If you are reading through the Bible according to the schedule on the newsletter calendar, the upcoming week’s readings are Ezekiel 12 - 36. You will find the answers to these questions and many more.
1. In whose death does the Lord take pleasure? (Ezekiel 18:32)
2. What exclamation did the Ammonites say over the desecrated temple?
(Ezekiel 25:3)

FIFTH SUNDAY – Sunday, August 31st is a Fifth Sunday, however we will NOT have Sunday School and the usual Pot Luck Lunch. There will be an Anniversary Brunch for Dennis and Linda Fritz following the service.
REV. DAVID CALLIES - PLAN TO ATTEND! DON’T BE LATE! On Sunday August 31st we will have a rare treat! In Pastor Pete’s absence, we will welcome back Pastor David Callies as our guest pastor. Some of you long time Ascension members will remember him and his wife Nancy when he served as Ascension’s pastor from 1969 – 1991. He is now retired and currently attends Our Savior Lutheran Church in Nashville. Come join us in prayer and praise as we welcome old friends and thank the Lord for all the blessings Ascension has received—past, present, and future!

THANK YOU – The Preschool wants to thank everyone, Jeff Oehlkers, Dennis & Linda Fritz and Keith & Sharon Lorenz, who spread mulch and to Keith and Dennis for also pouring concrete. Your hard work is greatly appreciated!
Pentecost #14 Matthew 15:21-28Wouldn’t we be discouraged as Christians if only certain ones of us received blessings from God? While some suffered in the congregation, others would receive bountiful goodness from the Lord. Thanks be to God that this is not the case. True, there are varieties of gifts given to us by the Spirit, but the Spirit does not withhold gifts from anyone. Neither does God’s grace fall only upon the deserving, but is free to all, especially sinners. It is because of God’s love for us that He gave His best gift of Christ Jesus to die for our sins. It is this outpouring of grace that we acknowledge as God’s stewards when we respond in thanksgiving with our offerings of self. Stewardship Committee
PAVING & ROOFING – Donations to date total $21,374. UPDATE We feel that the paving project is the most critical at this time so we will begin with it. However, we are not targeted to start until we reach two-thirds of our goal. We only need $48,626 to complete both projects. Remember that these donations are over and above your regular offerings. We do not want to take funds away from the weekly needs of the church. Please make your checks payable to Ascension, and earmark “P/R Fund”. If you have any questions, please contact any of the Property Board members: Steve Boggs, Greg Golter, Dan Newton, and Bill Pouder.
LUTHERAN HOUR for August 24 “ Mistaken Identity” Speaker: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus Does anybody really know you? Probably not?
